Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party impressive show in 2012 Mumbai Civic Elections

Raj Thackeray, chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party, and his party's supporters have plenty of reasons to celebrate despite not outright winning the 2012 Mumbai civic polls.

Reason No.1: ALL 7 seats in the civic wards of the Dadar-Mahim area have been bagged by MNS candidates. These wards form the heart of the 'Marathi manoos' belt in the city & Shiv Sena candidates have long since held sway in past elections here.

Reason No.2: MNS won 28 seats - that's quite a good number! - which is far more than the mere 7 seats they got in the 2007 civic elections. It proves that they have taken great strides in getting a larger support base from voters.

Reason No. 3: The MNS has established itself as the single largest party in Nashik by winning a whopping 40 seats.

Reason No. 4: In Pune, MNS was second to the NCP, having won 29 seats. Shiv Sena could bag only 15 seats, while the BJP got 26 seat & Congress got 28 seats.

Now that MNS will be the opposition party in the Mumbai Civic Corporation, it can make its presence felt by proving to be responsible through its work & shedding the image of being just loud critics.
