2013 Republic Day Parade folk dances and cultural performances

Since last year, the Republic Day parade at the Shivaji Park grounds in Mumbai have included tribal performances. The simple and unique traditional folk dances of indigenous tribals have been showcased. The 2013 Republic Day parade event has even more such performances than last year.

There were two small groups of tribals. One was from the village of Ghosali, district Mokhada, Thane, danced danced in tandem in a sort of wave and then formed a circle. The music emanated from an unusal instrument known as the Tarpa. This instrument is created from gourd, coconut tree parts and bamboo sticks.

Then there was this interesting group of people of varying ages who make rhythmic dance movements in two tiers!

Some more cultural performances...

A local college also put up a performance of music and dance

One group had a palanquin which they even threw up in the air, twirled and caught it!
