Deccan Odyssey Tourist Train Maharashtra India tariff bookings

The Deccan Odyssey is a luxury tourist train operated by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in collaboration with the Indian Railways. The train is known as the Deccan Odyssey because it makes its way across the Deccan Plateau in India for a 7 nights and 8 days journey.

About the Deccan Odyssey Train
Dining Car
First started in 2004, the Deccan Odyssey train consists of: 40 deluxe cabins in 10 cars, 4 presidential suites in 2 cars, 2 restaurant cars, 1 bar car, 1 Conference car with business centre, 1 spa car, 1 staff car and 2 power cars. 84 passengers can be accommodated at one time on the train. Each accommodation coach is designed on a particular theme. 

All modern amenities are provided and there are separate coaches for dining and lounging. The two multi-cuisine restaurants serve Indian, oriental and continental cuisine. Wines, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages are available at the onsite bar. There is even a library, fitness center and health spa on the train!

You don’t just travel to these places in the train, but get off on route at each halt to go sightseeing and visit the local popular tourist sites. Time is set aside for relaxing, dining at local resorts & shopping too at some halts.

Deccan Odyssey Train Itinerary Schedule
  • 1st day: Depart from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (C.S.T.) station in Mumbai at 16.40hrs, the train proceeding to Kudal railway station. Dinner will be served on board the train.
  • 2nd day: After breakfast, arrival at Kudal railway station, Sindhudurg district. You will proceed to Malvan jetty in an air-conditioned coach to board the ferry to visit the Sindhudurg Fort. After the visit, you proceed to Tarkarli Beach Resort for lunch and relaxing. This will be followed by a departure for Dhamapur village by the air-conditioned coach, on the way visiting the cashew factory. You will get to pay obeisance to Goddess Bhagwati and Sateri Devi at the ancient temples dedicated to them. At Dhamapur you will also visit the picturesque Dhamapur lake. A little after 7p.m. you are back on board the Deccan Odyssey train.
  • 3rd day: On arriving at Karmali Railway Station, you will get off the train to enjoy sightseeing in old Goa on board an air-conditioned coach. You will be visiting: St.Augustine Church; Basilica of Bom Jesus Church; Se Cathedral Church; St. Francis of Assissi; Museum of Goan antiques; Fontanhas, the Latin Quarters at Panjim. The sightseeing trip will be followed up by lunch and leisure on the Deccan Odyssey at Verna railway station. After 4p.m. you will enjoy a cultural evening and dinner at Beach Side hotel. Depart later to Madgaon Rly. Stn. board the Deccan  Odyssey for an overnight halt at Vasco railway station.
  • 4th day: After an on-board breakfast, you  visit Mangeshi, a Hindu temple. From there you will visit the Safa Masjid, a major Islamic shrine in Ponda which was built by the Sultan of Bijapur, Ibrahim Adil Shah. Then you will make an exciting visit to the Sahakari Spice Farm at Ponda where you will get a 45-minute guided tour of the spice plantation. You will be served a traditional Goan meal at this farm. This will be followed by a visit to Menezes Braganza House, a 16th Century heritage house at Chandor village. By 5.30p.m. you are back on board the train.
  • 5th day: You will arrive at Kolhapur where you will get off the train for sightseeing in an air-conditioned coach. Visits will be made to: New Palace, Museum, Bhawanin Mandap, Mahalaxmi Temple and Shalini Palace. You will get to watch a traditional marital arts and cultural program and visit handicraft stalls. Lunch and leisure will be on board the train. After dinner, there will be halt at Pune railway station for detraining and entraining. Train will depart from here to Daulatabad station.
  • 6th day: Arrival at Daulatabad and breakfast on board the train. You will get off to go sightseeing on board an air-conditioned coach. You will visit the Daulatabad fort and the world famous Ellora Caves, which have been declared as a World Heritage site. This will be followed by a visit to Bibi-Ka-Maqbara and free time for shopping. At 5.30p.m. you return to the train and spend free time on board.
  •  7th day: Arrival at Jalgaon railway station. You will get off the train to visit the Ajanta Caves, also a World Heritage site like the Ellora caves. At 12.45noon you board the train again and have lunch on board. In the evening you arrive at Nashik station and proceed to the Panchwati Ghats & a visit to ancient temples. You return to the train at 7.30p.m. at Deolali Rly Station.
  • 8th day: Breakfast on board the train and arrival at Mumbai station.

Types of Accommodation on Deccan Odyssey Train
There are 2 categories of accommodation:
(1) Deluxe Cabin – for this category, you can opt for seating on single, double or triple occupancy basis.
(2) Presidential Suite


Accommodation facilities: Wi-Fi internet, channel music, electronic safe and attached bathrooms with showers.

Note: you are not allowed to smoke in the cabins or other areas or the train other than in the bar.

Tariff includes: Travel, catering, conducted sightseeing, entrance fees at the various monuments, palaces, parks and boat rides.

Additional Notes on Tariff
1. Children below 5 years old can travel at 10% of the total journey cost. Half fare is applicable for the children between 5 to 12 years of age. You will need to submit the age proof of children at the time of issuance of tickets.
2. 10% surcharge will be levied on the Christmas and New Year departures.
3. Service Tax @ 3.09% is applicable on the total journey price.
4. Cost of journey is subject to change without prior information.
5. Tariff does not include: Fees for video camera, charges for laundry and telephone calls, drinks, business car facilities, liquor and tips.
